Wasted Space

On my way to work this morning I sat in the first train car on the metro which had two other people in it minding their own business. Individually two more people come on – a large woman and a 20 or 30 ish dude. All of a sudden, over the sound of my beloved iPod* I hear them start freaking BRAWLING. From what they are saying it seems that they don’t even KNOW each other! I got the gist that he looked at her in a way that she didn’t like, and he claimed he was looking at a poster and not her. But they were freaking BRAWLING. She kept shouting the N word at him over and over and saying that she just got out of the pen. It was classy for sure. So then the conductor comes over – the train wouldn’t move out of the station because of this – and tries to break it up saying they are going to jail. At this point the fighter dude calls her the N word and she starts saying “what did you call me” and “are you playing the race card?” And now I am all confused because that has been, like, EVERY other word out of her mouth…and since they were BOTH black how could one of them use the “race card” against the other??? I tell you, I heard things come out of those two mouths that straight up colored my face red and couldn’t repeat for anything! Clearly their parents never used soap in their mouths growing up.

I just have to wonder at the mind that would start a fight – and a physical one at that – and GO TO JAIL over a LOOK from a complete stranger. An action which could EASILY and most PROBABLY was perceived completely wrong and coming from a person who is completely INSIGNIFICANT in her life. How can that possibly be worth it? Your family and your freedom are worth fighting for, definitely not the stink eye from a stranger.

For sure the most exciting aspect of my day so far…but I DO have this fantastically thrilling lunch to look forward to:

Isn’t it pretty?
